Being an empath means that you can feel someone else’s emotions as your own. Usually it’s strongest when you are around the person. Happiness, sadness, love, fear.
There is a significant difference between having empathy and being an empath.

Being an empath in 2018 is hard, there is so much pain in the world right now. I feel a big bubble of pain in my heart. A pain that isn’t my own. But the pain of the world. The pain of people, animals, plants, everything.
Everyday there is something awful happening in the world. From the wildfires in Greece, the bombings in Syria, the flighting in The Middle East, the conflicts in Israel and Palestine, the shootings in America and Canada, the terrorist attacks in Europe, the separation of families on the US border, the corruption in Hungary, the homeless crisis in Ireland, the dolphin hunting in Taiji, the everyday happenings of a slaughter house, the environmental crisis, the rainforest being destroyed. And wow there is so much more than I have even written there. So much more than we are even hearing about.
Our world is in so much pain, every country is experiencing it.
As I said, what is happening affects us all. It can make us lose a sense of security. Which is why we should protect ourselves and turn inwards.
We can all feel the pain. But empaths can feel it as their own pain. It can be hard to distinguish someone else’s pain from our own.
If you are an empath, remember that you have the most wonderful, rare gift. Even if it hurts 90% of the time. You feel everything so immensely, but mostly love. You love on a much deeper level, even though you feel pain on a much deeper level. Love also triumphs.
As an empath, sometimes, I need to stop reading the news altogether. I need a few days break or I would never stop feeling the pain.
Sometimes we all need to step back, take a break from it all. And realize that there is still so much beauty in the world.
Step outside, look up at the sky, look at flowers, listen to music. Look to the simple things to see the beauty. Look for resources inside. Focus on what is important in your life and practice gratitude. Maybe even envision yourself surrounded by a bright white light, to help you will feel protected. Perhaps practice yoga and meditation to find stability inside ourselves, and not look for stability outside in the ever-changing world that we live in.
It’s the best you can do sometimes.
Unfortunately, we can’t heal everyone, even though we want to.
You still need to protect yourself too.
