Caring for your Crystals

A few months ago, I wrote a blog about the best 4 crystals to own, which you can read right here. I was very surprised with how well it was received and I have been meaning to write more about crystals for so long now.

Today, I want to talk about taking care of your crystals and how to use them.

Each crystal is associated with a specific meaning, energy, and intention.

Sometimes we are simply drawn to a crystal because of it's shape or colours, and we're often pulled toward the ones that contain the energy we're subconsciously trying to bring into our lives.

When you fist buy a new crystal, either online or in a crystal shop (preferably from a crystal shop or if there are none close to you, I recommend Energy Muse in the US and The Colourful Dot from the UK) you have to remember that loads of people before you have touched your new crystal.

Crystals absorb energy so your new crystals could have absorbed other peoples energy, good or bad. So of course, you need to get rid of this first.

How to cleanse your crystals

Some people say that you only need to do one of these things I have listed, but with every crystals I own, I have always felt guided to do all of these. So you can do them all or pick whichever suits you.

1. The first think I like to do is to put my crystal under running water.

Preferably from a river or a stream but if that's not possible running your crystal under a running tap is fine. You can also leave your crystals out in the rain.

The water is believed to wash away any negative energy whilst also bringing new clear energy into the crystals.

2. You should then cleanse your crystal by burning dried sage to get rid of any negative energies. This practice is called smudging.

Because of its effective purifying energies, sage has been considered sacred by many Native American Indians and Shamans. Sage can not only be used to cleanse your energy during a smudging ritual, but has also many other powerful healing properties. Sage is a potent antiseptic, antioxidant, an excellent natural disinfectant.

3. The next step is to put your crystal out during a full moon.

Full moons are all about clearing out old energies, so it is a wonderful time to put your crystals outside under a full moon. If you can't put your crystals outside, you can leave them at a window where the full moon will still shine on them.

4. Next, I like to bring my crystals in from outside and burn palo santo all around them.

Palo Santo is a mystical tree that grows on the coast of South America and is related to Frankincense. In Spanish, the name literally means “Holy Wood”.

Palo Santo locks in positive energies and it smells incredible. Simply pick up your crystal (one at a time) and allow the smoke from the burning Palo Santo surround your little beauty.

Setting an intention for your crystal

Hold the crystal in your dominant hand and clear your mind of any negative or unwanted thoughts.

Still your mind and begin to focus on your crystal. Your intuition will guide you to what you need in your life. It could be to bringing open to receiving love, having clearer thoughts or improved sleep.

Describe your intention aloud, and repeat these words until you feel this energy has connected with your crystal. Your intuition will tell you when it is set.

Using your crystal

Keep your crystal in your pocket, on your desk, under your pillow, or next to your bed to serve as a constant reminder of the positive intentions you have set.

Revisit and reset your intentions weekly to continue on your positive journey.

Your crystals will help you remember what you are trying to bring into your life. They will help you focus on the opportunities that are showing up in your life so that you can fulfill these intentions.

And don't forget, you can put your crystals out at every full moon to cleanse them and you can burn sage and palo santo anytime you or the crystals need it. You can change the intentions of the crystals at anytime too, just repeat the above steps.

I hope you enjoyed this little blog about cleansing your crystals and how to use them. I have been using crystals since I have been 5 years old and I won't be stopping anytime soon.

Have a wonderful night friends.

Love, Light and Namaste,

Anna B
