Five Life Altering Books

Books are wonderful, it makes me sad that people don't read anymore and that reading is "uncool". I have always loved reading, and I believe if we want to better ourselves we need to study the things we love. When I get my hands on a new book I fully immerse myself in it. I will find any moment I can to read even just a few pages.

My favourite books at the moment are very spiritual and they are LIFE CHANGING! I also read loads of books about yoga and I love fantasy books too!

So here are some of my favourite books, these books are completely life changing and I really hope you check them out, because I promise you, they are amazing.

1. The Alchemist

The back cover: This story, dazzling in its powerful simplicity and soul-stirring wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried near the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles in his path. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.

What I thought: I loved this so much. This book is so lovely. It is a story of a shepherd who travels to Egypt in search for treasure. But it is so much more than that too. There is a hint of the law of attraction throughout. Whatever you ask the universe for, it will give it to you.

This book will completely change your perspective of your own life.

2. The Four Agreements

The back cover: Don Miguel Ruiz reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, the Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love. The Four Agreements are: Be Impeccable With Your Word, Don't Take Anything Personally, Don't Make Assumptions, Always Do Your Best.

What I thought: This book is wonderful and it is one of those books that I will read again and again. This book is more of a guide to live your best life. It isn’t a story but more pointers to live an incredible life. It is a must read for everyone who wants to improve their life or to continue living their best life. I loved it and I will read it many more times as there is so much to learn from it.

3. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

The back cover: The Seven Laws of Success distills the essence of Chopra's teachings into seven simple, yet powerful, principles that can easily be applied to create success in all areas of your life. Filled with timeless wisdom and practical steps you can apply right away, this is a book you will want to read and refer to again and again

What I thought: Amazing book, Deepak Chopra is an incredible person and I have learned so much from him! Again, this book is more of a guide to live your best life. But this book is so tiny, you can finish it in an hour. As the title suggests, it is more spiritual than The Four Agreements. It is the type of book that once you read it, you will cherish the words and use them to live an incredible life.

4. Many Lives Many Masters

The back cover: The true story of a prominent psychiatrist, his young patient, and the past-life therapy that changed both their lives. As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks.

What I thought: AMAZING! I loved this book so much. Everything in this book is everything I have always believed. If you are skeptic about reincarnation, read this! It will change everything!

5. The Bhagavad Gita

The back cover: The Bhagavad Gita is an intensely spiritual work that forms the cornerstone of the Hindu faith, and is also one of the masterpieces of Sanskrit poetry. It describes how, at the beginning of a mighty battle between the Pandava and Kaurava armies, the god Krishna gives spiritual enlightenment to the warrior Arjuna, who realizes that the true battle is for his own soul.

What I thought: This book is one of the most popular books ever read, maybe even more than the Bible and the Quran, but thousands of years older so I am sure we can say it is the most popular holy books. It is a Hindu spiritual book dating back more than 5000 years ago. There are so many translations as it’s original writings were in Sanskrit. I recently had a conversation on our yoga teacher training Whatsapp group about this book. A lot of people didn't enjoy it and saw it in a very different light than I did, so I am going to share what I said.

For me it teaches us so much more than what the words say. And I feel like it is the type of book that will just keep giving if we read it again and again. I feel like the story has a much deeper meaning, Krisha is helping Arjuna to find his Dharma. It teaches us about Karma yoga so doing the right thing without gaining something from this action, about having a loving awareness to something bigger than us and so much more. One thing that stuck with me is that we are all Arjuna. We all have a Dharma or life path. And sometimes we don’t want to follow this path or know how. But we should, as I believe we were all put here on this earth at this time for a specific reason. And also that we are not just our body or not just our soul, we are so much more, we are all one. We are all the same.

I had so many more books on this list, but 5 is a nice number! I plan to write a new blog post every few weeks about the books I've been reading, as I hope to read a book a week. Maybe we could even start a book club!
