Last Saturday, I did something I never thought I'd have the confidence to do! I completely stepped out of my comfort zone and took part in the Miss Cavan final. I never thought I'd have the self confidence to stand up on stage and talk about myself, I never thought I'd be the sort of girl who was so confident in her own skin that could do that.
I was unfortunately bullied for a lot of my adultescent years and even before that! I was always called too skinny, or anorexic, even though I never had any issues with my own body! But the words I got called in primary and secondary school stayed with me the whole way through college and even up to last year! Some things are just too hard to fade from your thoughts but thankfully in recent months I have found the power in myself to get my self confidence back. So I thought why not? What's the worst that could happen? There were no cons in applying, just pros!
I first applied for my home county, Miss Meath, unfortunately I was away on holidays when the final was taking place. But thankfully for the amazing Jenny, Jenny is the Miss Ireland mentor for Meath and Cavan (and many more) asked if I'd like to apply for Miss Cavan and I instantly jumped at the chance! I found out the day I arrived home that I made the Miss Cavan final.
Even that in itself was incredible to me! I didn't even believe I'd make it that far! The next week I found out that I was in the TOP 3! And I cried because I was so so happy!
I had my dress at the ready, my department in work sponsored me and I had my prints ready! I was all sorted!
I didn't know what to expect when I got there, I had my boyfriend, my family and friends there ready to support me!
We had three 3 outfit changes, and we had to do our walk three times! This was my favourite part! I think one of my favourite things from when I used to model was the adrenaline that you get from walking to the beat of the music and feeling in your own little world while still taking in everything around you!
We then had our interviews, which I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I got to speak about veganism, my blog, YouTube, my fashion inspirations and why I'd make a good Miss Cavan. It was such an amazing experience!!
The other girls interviews were incredible and we were all so talkative and confident on stage! It was so amazing so see and inspiring!
The results were then in, and the lovely and stunning Sorcha became Miss Cavan and she is straight into the final. I was 1st Runner Up and I get to do it all again in the Miss Ireland Semi Finals. Which I am so so excited about! Hopefully I get through so myself and Sorcha will be together again for the final!
I cannot recommend Miss Ireland enough, it builds your confidence, you make amazing friends and you have the opportunity to do so much good in your community and for your country. You get the chance promote and help charities and people all over Ireland!
Miss Worlds motto is Beauty With A Purpose! It's an amazing part of Miss World and Miss Ireland where you get to give back, this registered charity helps disadvantaged children, which I would be so honoured to be a part of.
My Beauty With A Purpose would be to help the homeless men, women and children in Ireland, whether it be giving out food, warm beds, clean clothes or just become a friend for someone who needs one! The homeless crisis in Ireland is shocking in current years, over 5,000 people are classified as "officially homeless" and over 1,000 of these are children.
I also want to help animals, I believe the animal welfare laws in Ireland really need to be reviewed! There are so many puppy farms, so many factory farms and so much illegal hunting in Ireland and so many people get away with harming animals without even a slap on the wrist! I feel very strongly helping people, especially children, and animals, if I were to win Miss Ireland I would want my reign to be about others and what I could possibly do to help people and animals alike!
For anyone who would like to support me in the semi final, it is on Sunday 31st of July at 7:30pm in Lilly Bordello's, which is just off Grafton Street in Dublin!
I cannot wait for the semi finals, I feel so much more ready!
Can't wait to see you there!
