Spirulina - What is it?

Hi guys!

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend!

Today I’m going to focus on spirulina, it is the most amazing little superfood you will ever come across! The colour is incredible, the benefits are out of this world and it’s a great addition to your smoothies and juices.

Spirulina is a microalga that grows naturally in the wild in warm, fresh and salt water lakes. Its deep blue-green color is what gives the water its greenish hue. It is the world's first superfood, and one of the most nutrient-rich foods on Earth.

  • Spirulina has between 55% and 70% protein, would you believe that that’s more than beef, chicken, and soybeans!

  • It provides a boost to your energy, while helping to improve endurance and reduce fatigue.

  • It helps improve the immune system, and provides exceptional support for a healthy heart, liver, and kidneys.

  • Spirulina is a detoxifier, helping cleanse the body of toxins and other impurities.

  • Spirulina is also an appetite suppressant, and it helps to improve the body's digestive system.

  • It also has very powerful antioxidant properties and it reduces inflammation throughout the body.

  • There’s high levels of vitamin B12, iron and calcium.

Spirulina is so easy to introduce into your diet. A teaspoon of spirulina can be added to your morning smoothie, juice and even your yogurt.

My recipe below can be made so quickly in the morning and it is so delicious. The top and bottom layer is packed with all the goodness of spirulina and the middle layer is full of the yumminess of strawberries.

I hope you enjoy.
